Having My Way with Thursday

Mind over Matter was the name of the game yesterday.  I ignored things like my inability to breathe out of one nostril, the weird whistling sounds that happens right before I try to talk, the fact that I can't keep anything in my system for longer than 24 hours and the oozy, licky, icky spots my dog's been giving herself all over her fur.  Denial looks pretty on me, don't you think?!

Here are a few things that ensured I had my way with Thursday, most of them being Farmer's Market related (No flirting was involved though.  Sausage Guy is gone, people.  Let it go.):

Copper Pot guy was back at the Penn Quarter Farmer's Market, so I could buy this sauce.  Yes, it's as good as it sounds.  Yes, sometimes I eat it by itself with a fork (it's chunky).  No, I'm not embarrassed that I cried a little when I saw it sitting there glistening in the sunlight under the tent.

The weather was *finally* perfect for me to wear this Daughters of the Revolution jacket out and about.  I haven't really had an occasion to wear it since I bought it from Anthropologie on my Houston shopping spree.  (Note to Anthropologie: Please stop making fabulous clothes, I'm broke.) Seriously, it's kind of the cutest jacket ever.  Even though this picture makes it look wrinkled and weird.  Trust me, it's adorable.  And comfortable.  I wish I could wear it all the time.  I love it. (Oh, if only I could talk about a man like I do this jacket.)

The farmers from this stand and I had a long talk about the virtues of watercress.  When I told them I had featured them (and their watercress) in my Zomppa article this Tuesday for Watercress Salad with Strawberry Vinaigrette and Cheddar Croutons, the one guy took out a pen and wrote "zomppa" down on his hand while I spelled it.  Farmers are awesome.

When I bought this speck at Red Apron, the Red Apron guy sang me a speck song.  I'm not kidding.  If my head wasn't so muddled, I'd have memorized the lyrics.  But, I know you couldn't just substitute in "prosciutto" or "pancetta"- it has to speck.  There were rhymes.

I received this thank you note.  I love thank you notes.  This might be the best one ever.  I'm pretty sure my friend made her husband write it.  I'm pretty sure he didn't want to.  (BTW, Wesley is 3.  So, I can't imagine there were a lot of "dates" to compete with.  But, my seats ARE amazing.)  Well done.

Plus, my friends are really nice and sent me lots of little love emails.  Thank you, friends.

RECIPE
I forgot to link to this week's M@M Zomppa recipe- Watercress Salad with Strawberry Vinaigrette and Cheddar Croutons.  Here it is.

You should make it if only for the strawberry vinaigrette or the cheddar cheese croutons.  Yum.

I think I should probably lie down now.

  1. HAHA! Dustin actually wrote that note all on his own. But he has learned the art of thank-you notes from your's truly! And you're seats must be amazing because everytime he watches a game on tv now, he runs up to the thing, points to the same location and goes, "That's exactly where Melissa's seats are! They're awesome!!!"
